Fibromyalgia is certainly difficult to cope with. It ranks 2nd among disabling conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, 1st being arthritis. As many as one out of every 50 people in America has fibromyalgia. In other words, 3 to 6 million of those in the USA have this condition. What are some facts to know about fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia Symptoms include:

  • Widespread pain throughout the body
  • Cognitive problems often called brain fog
  • Extreme exhaustion
  • Digestive and bowel issues
  • Abnormal headaches or migraines

It generally affects women of childbearing age, although men and children can also be diagnosed. An exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, but many theories abound. No lab or other testing can diagnose this condition. Rather, it is vital to rule out other conditions to confirm fibromyalgia.

Do Nightshade Vegetables Increase Fibromyalgia Pain?

Nightshade vegetables include potatoes, peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes. These all contain a toxin known as solanine that can increase inflammation in the joints of those with a sensitivity to it. A study recently published relates this may increase pain levels in those with fibromyalgia. Some medical doctors advise against consuming these as they may affect up to 50% of those with fibromyalgia.

Finding Natural Care for Fibromyalgia

One thing that is agreed upon concerning the cause of fibromyalgia is it comes from a malfunction of the central nervous system causing one to feel increased pain where there is little or no pain at all. Often the bones of the upper neck have been found to be misaligned. The brainstem is located here, and if the top bones of the neck misalign, it can be negatively affected. Communication between the brain and body becomes distorted leading to fibromyalgia symptoms. The central nervous system has the responsibility of regulating digestion and inflammation among other important bodily functions. This may explain why nightshade vegetables have a bad effect on some patients.

Here at Balanced Living Chiropractic Center in Rochester Hills, Michigan, we use a gentle method that helps these bones to realign, restoring proper function to the brainstem and, in turn, the central nervous system. A decrease in fibromyalgia symptoms or even complete resolution may be the result.
