Upper Cervical Chiropractic
Hello, this is Dr. Cicala from Balanced Living Chiropractic in Rochester Hills. We do upper cervical chiropractic, which is different from the traditional popping, twisting, cracking type of chiropractic.
What I want to talk to you about today is how our treatment is different—not only with the adjustment that we do, but also with some of the other technologies that we have to help decrease your headaches and migraines. It’s been super effective.
With the upper cervical adjustment, as I’m sure you’ve seen in some of our other videos, we’re working at the very top part of the spine and making sure that it’s aligned. We do a very gentle, precise adjustment with no popping, twisting, or cracking.
Frequency-Specific Microcurrent
Typically, to speed up the results and get you feeling better faster, we’re also going to use a technology called frequency-specific microcurrent.
Frequency-specific microcurrent is a device that we have, and it kind of looks like a TENS unit. A lot of people are used to what a TENS unit looks like: a little device with some electrodes that you can put on different areas of the body.
For a typical headache case, we’re going to take one of these electrodes and put it on the neck. The other one is going to go either on the upper chest or, sometimes, even on the stomach.
Calming the Nervous System
What the microcurrent will do for you is help calm your nervous system down. The majority of the time, when we’re having a chronic headache issue and it’s coming from the neck instead of the head, it’s because the nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight mode.
Microcurrent is going to put a very specific frequency into your nervous system and the tissues of your body to help calm those nerves, reduce inflammation, and energize the cells to bring the correct energy so the body can heal itself.
It may seem a little bit hokey or voodoo-ish, but I promise you it’s not. There are a lot of studies that have been going on with microcurrent, and microcurrent has been around for over 100 years. This is just a much more refined way to deal with microcurrent.
What a Typical Visit Looks Like
Not only do we do our very specific adjustments to the head and neck for a situation with chronic headaches or migraines, but we’re also going to add microcurrent into those tissues. Microcurrent usually takes about 45 minutes or so in the office.
In a typical situation, patients will come in, get checked, and get adjusted if they need that adjustment. We’ll put the microcurrent on their body, depending on exactly where they need it, and then they’ll go into what we call our resting area.
In our resting area, you can either lie down or sit in some very comfortable chairs. You just relax and let the treatment do what it’s supposed to do for you, which is, again, to reset and calm your nervous system and allow your body to heal in a faster way.
Getting Back on the Road to Recovery
